South West Rocks Photography Tour

29th July - 4th August 2018

Enjoy Len’s gentle, supportive style as you participate in informative discussions and impromptu lessons, and receive personalised help while shooting.

South West Rocks is nearly halfway between Sydney and Brisbane on the East Coast of NSW.  It is a delightful small village on the sheltered shores of a large bay.

There are so many photographic opportunities from this location, including deserted beaches, national parks, rivers, lighthouses, and rivers.

We go at this time of the year as the weather is often perfect. Warmer than Sydney, it makes a lovely winter escape. Being in the low season there are less people around too.

Train or Bus to Kempsy and ask Len to pick you up.

Your accommodation includes six nights at a beautiful house in South West Rocks. Each person has their own room.

Accomodation will be booked once minimum numbers have been reached.

3 participants

Day 1: Arrive and settle in, and a lovely home cooked dinner to welcome you.

Day 2 - Day 5  Photographic outings to various local attractions at the best photographic times.

Day 6 A late start and plenty of time to pack up and travel home.

This itinerary is a guideline only and activities may be changed, altered or removed subject to weather conditions and the needs of the group.

Days on tour are long and relaxed.  On a typical day we will be up early for breakfast before our early morning photo shoot.  This may be in time for sunrise or simply the soft morning light.

Once we arrive on location you will have plenty of time to arrange yourself, shoot, explore and receive individual guidance from Len.  Morning tea in the field will keep us going until late morning when we return to our accommodation for lunch and a rest.

After lunch we will reconvene for a coaching session and a valuable opportunity to look through our images as a group.

In the afternoon, feeling refreshed after our rest, we will wander out to capture the evening light and sunset.  We will return home for dinner, evening discussions and valuable group critique sessions.

All of the shoots are optional and locations are open to discussion based on the conditions and the flow of our group.  Our itinerary will vary depending on the light and the group – when the light is perfect we might even pack our morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch and spend the whole day in the field.

This is a gentle trip, which requires a low level of fitness.  Strolls along well-formed paths and boardwalks are a photographers delight, with stunning visual possibilities right on our doorstep.

During the tour we will meet regularly as a group to review our work and learn together.

Discussion topics include composition, tone, line, colour theory, black and white, self-critique, studying master landscape photographers and technical camera and processing tips.  Lesson topics are guided by the needs of the group.

You will also receive valuable feedback on your photographs from your group in tea-and-critique sessions.  Often these insights help you take your photography to the next level.

A variety of home cooked meals by Len and various coffee shops and restaurants.

We can cater to dietary needs such as gluten free and vegetarian, please let us know in advance.

We will meet in South West Rocks and travel to all locations in Len's 4WD vehicle.

“I truly want to thank you. You were so generous with your time, your expertise, with sharing your work and what you think makes a good photo great, and particularly generous with yourself. That might sound a bit strange but you gave so much of yourself on the weekend and I so valued that. It’s a unique experience to be able to feel the energy and the passion that drive a creative talent - and you shared that with us too . . . you were such a fabulous tour leader and looked after us so so so well!!! I never saw you show any sign of anything other than care and concern. Thank you! ”
