Learn the fundamentals of DSLR cameras. Including such topics as correct exposure, reading histogram information, camera modes, focusing, understanding apertures, holding the camera, composition, camera supports, file formats, post processing, colour spaces, care and maintenance of your camera, and lens choice.
This workshop is tailored to your individual learning needs. It is designed to help you improve your photographic technique and methods with the outcome of you producing better images by knowing your camera.
1 day – $495.00 for one eight hour day
2 days – $795.00 for two eight hour days
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Identify and frame photographs (this will include the fine-tuning your composition).
- Discuss the importance of histograms and identify clipping of the image highlights and/or shadow detail.
- Focus your camera while understanding and utilising depth of field (using all the focusing methods your camera offers)
- Describe the features and benefits of different recording formats (jpg, tiff and RAW)
- Discuss digital image stabilisation systems.
- Identify and use the various camera mode settings.
- Describe and demonstrate various photographic working methods for location scouting, framing and image capture.
- Choose the correct lens for your composition.
- Correctly set up and use a tripod, other camera supports and demonstrate how to hand hold a camera.
- Develop your images with simple post capture software.
- Identify appropriate resources to carry into the field, for comfort, safety, and camera repair & maintaince.
- Identify various types of cameras and different photographic formats.
- Discuss photography compositional issues
- Examine various photographers, working methods and photographic images.
Students who only complete one day will not be able to achieve all the stated learning outcomes.
